Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's New Role

The promising Indian cricketer Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has received a significant boost in his career by being appointed as the captain of Bihar for the initial matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2026/27.

This prestigious T20 tournament is set to commence on November 14, with Bihar competing in Group B against teams like Saurashtra, Delhi, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Railways, and Tamil Nadu.

In a strategic move, the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) has entrusted Sooryavanshi with the captaincy for the first two matches, stepping in for the injured regular captain, Sakibul Gani.

Reasons Behind His Appointment

Leading a state team is a significant milestone for any player, and Sooryavanshi's selection has sparked discussions due to his young age and the high expectations placed upon him.

BCA president Harsh Vardhan elaborated on the decision, stating that Sooryavanshi has shown remarkable talent and maturity, making him a suitable candidate for this responsibility.

"This role will allow him to further develop as both a cricketer and a leader," Vardhan noted, expressing optimism about the team's performance under Sooryavanshi's guidance.

Vaibhav's Experience and Future Prospects

Sooryavanshi, who recently participated in the India squad for a T20I series against New Zealand, will play two group matches before joining the India A team for the Emerging Rising Stars Asia Cup 2026 in Doha.

He has previously served as vice-captain for East Zone in the Duleep Trophy, gaining valuable experience in leadership roles.

Public Reaction to His Captaincy

The announcement of Sooryavanshi's captaincy has ignited a debate on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), with opinions divided among fans and cricket analysts.

While some express concern about the pressures of captaincy on a 15-year-old, others believe this opportunity will enhance his leadership skills and prepare him for future challenges.

Fans have voiced mixed feelings, with some advocating for him to focus on his game rather than the added responsibilities of captaincy.

Vaibhav's Impressive Statistics

In his T20 career, Sooryavanshi has amassed 1772 runs, including four centuries and eight fifties, boasting an average of 41.20 and a striking rate of 213.75 across 44 matches.

Notably, a significant portion of his runs—approximately 85%—has come from boundaries, showcasing his explosive batting style.
