In the recently concluded T20I series against Zimbabwe, 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi displayed exceptional skill, scoring a match-winning 81 runs off 49 balls on a challenging pitch at Harare Sports Club. This performance helped India achieve a clean sweep of 3-0 in the series.
Sooryavanshi's innings included 8 boundaries and 4 sixes, achieving a strike rate of 165.31. He concluded the series as the top scorer with a total of 151 runs, averaging 50.33 and boasting a strike rate of 196.10 across three innings, earning him both Player of the Match and Player of the Series accolades.
After a disappointing debut series against England, where he managed only 42 runs, Sooryavanshi has made a remarkable comeback, silencing critics and demonstrating his potential on the international stage.

Vaibhav's performance in the T20Is against Zimbabwe was particularly noteworthy, especially after his earlier struggles in England. In that series, he averaged just 14 runs over three matches. However, he rebounded impressively against Zimbabwe, showcasing not only his power-hitting but also his ability to handle pressure.
During the post-match press conference, interim head coach VVS Laxman praised Sooryavanshi's quick adaptation to conditions and his continuous improvement. He noted that despite the pitch being previously used, the young player demonstrated maturity in countering Zimbabwe's bowling strategies and pacing his innings effectively.
"Vaibhav's maturity is commendable. With each match, he learns and improves. He reviews every practice session, not just the matches," Laxman remarked.
Vaibhav's Journey and Future Prospects
In the first T20I, Sooryavanshi made a striking impact with a quick 50 runs off just 19 balls, followed by a rapid 20 runs off 9 balls in the second match. He capped off the series with a masterful innings in Harare, a venue where he previously scored a record-breaking 175 runs in the U19 World Cup final against England.
Following his impressive IPL season, where he scored 776 runs, including a century and five fifties, Sooryavanshi was fast-tracked into the Indian squad for the T20I tour of the UK and Zimbabwe. Although he faced challenges during his debut against England, he has since established himself as a promising talent in international cricket.
As the series concludes, Sooryavanshi is set to participate in the Asian Games starting September 19. Before that, he is expected to play in the Duleep Trophy for East Zone on August 23.
While currently not included in the Test squad, selectors are monitoring his progress in domestic cricket, anticipating a future call-up as he gains more experience. His immediate focus will remain on T20Is and ODIs, which are crucial for his burgeoning career.
