Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Shines Against Jasprit Bumrah in IPL Clash
Kumble Applauds Sooryavanshi's Performance
Anil Kumble, the legendary spinner, has commended Rajasthan Royals (RR) batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his outstanding performance against Jasprit Bumrah. Kumble emphasized how the young player managed to take control against one of the premier bowlers globally. He pointed out that Sooryavanshi skillfully anticipated Bumrah's variations, setting him up for a slower delivery and executing aggressive strokes, showcasing his impressive strike rate and consistent performance.
Sooryavanshi's remarkable display came during the IPL match against the Mumbai Indians in Guwahati, which was shortened to an 11-over format due to rain.
Sooryavanshi's Strategy Against Bumrah
"Sooryavanshi makes it look effortless against one of the best bowlers in the world. He hit a six off the first ball and then cleverly set him up. Typically, we see Bumrah dictating terms to batters, but here, Sooryavanshi took the initiative, anticipating a slower ball on the third delivery and smashing it for another six. His batting was exceptional, with a strike rate nearing 300 and consistently scoring over 30 runs in each match, which is remarkable," Kumble remarked during a discussion on JioHotstar.
Match Highlights: RR vs MI
In his first encounter with Bumrah, Sooryavanshi hit two massive sixes in the second over of RR's innings. Although his innings was brief, it was electrifying, as he scored an impressive 39 runs off just 14 balls.
Alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored a blistering 77* off 32 balls, Sooryavanshi helped RR post a total of 150/3. The Mumbai Indians (MI) struggled in their chase, managing only 123/9, with bowlers Burger (2/21), Sandeep (2/25), and Bishnoi (2/26) leading the attack.
IPL Points Table Update
Currently, RR tops the points table with three victories in three matches, showcasing impressive performances under the leadership of Riyan Parag. Meanwhile, MI, after a win against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has faced defeats against Delhi Capitals (DC) and RR, placing them seventh in the standings.
