Sooryavanshi's Historic Achievement

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has etched his name in the Indian Premier League (IPL) record books by becoming the youngest player ever to win the Orange Cap. This milestone was achieved following the early exits of Gujarat Titans (GT) openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan during the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Sunday. At merely 15 years and 65 days, Sooryavanshi has set a new benchmark for the youngest Orange Cap recipient.

A Remarkable IPL Season

The previous record for the youngest Orange Cap winner was held by Sudharsan, who claimed it at 23 years and 231 days in 2025. Shubman Gill had set a record in 2023 at 23 years and 263 days. Throughout the season, the Bihar-born talent showcased his skills across 16 matches, accumulating an impressive 776 runs with a phenomenal strike rate of 237.31. He also hit 72 sixes, breaking Chris Gayle's long-standing record of 59 sixes in a single IPL season.

The Final Showdown

The IPL Governing Council is anticipated to officially announce Sooryavanshi's accolade following the final match between RCB and Gujarat at the Narendra Modi Stadium. With Rajasthan Royals (RR) eliminated after their loss to Gujarat in Qualifier 2, Sooryavanshi concluded the season with a significant lead. Despite Shubman Gill's century in the chase against Gujarat, he could not surpass Sooryavanshi after being dismissed for just 10 runs in the final. Sai Sudharsan, last year's Orange Cap holder, also fell short with only 12 runs.

Breaking More Records

Sooryavanshi's season was nothing short of extraordinary, with 776 runs at a strike rate of 237.31 and a record-breaking 72 sixes. He narrowly missed equaling Virat Kohli's record of four centuries in a season, having been dismissed in the nineties three times: 93 against Lucknow Super Giants, 97 in the Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad, and 96 in Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans, in addition to his century against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Additionally, Sooryavanshi reached the milestone of 1,000 IPL runs in record time, needing just 440 balls, surpassing the previous record held by Andre Russell. He became the second-fastest player to achieve this in 23 innings, with Shaun Marsh holding the record at 21 innings. His explosive performances have made him a prominent figure in Indian cricket, with many predicting a bright future for him across all formats.
