Inclusivity in Competition

Under the organization of the Cricket Association of Uttarakhand (CAU), the UPL 2026 will feature both men's and women's tournaments, reinforcing the League's dedication to providing opportunities for cricketers statewide. The men's teams include Dehradun Warriors, USN Indians, Haridwar Elmas, Tehri Titans, Rishikesh River Kings, Pithoragarh Hurricanes, and Nainital Tigers. The women's teams will consist of Mussoorie Queens, Bageshwar Aerial, Pithoragarh Hurricanes, and Dehradun Warriors, with four prominent players: Prema Rawat, Raghvi Bist, Nandini Kashyap, and Sweta Verma.

A Platform for Emerging Talent

Smt. Kiran Verma, Secretary of CAU, emphasized the significance of UPL as a vital platform for showcasing local talent. She stated, "The success of the previous editions motivates us to enhance UPL 2026, offering greater opportunities for our cricketers to advance their careers."

Shri Mahim Verma, former Vice-President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), noted that the UPL serves as a crucial platform for players to gain visibility, especially with the IPL auction approaching.

Shri Sunil Joshi, Chairperson of UPL, remarked, "The League aims to create opportunities for Uttarakhand's cricketers, and the upcoming edition will further highlight the state's talent pool."

Strategic Importance of UPL

The Uttarakhand Premier League has established itself as the premier T20 competition in the state, allowing talented players to compete alongside seasoned professionals in a well-organized setting. Positioned strategically before the IPL auction, it offers players a chance to demonstrate their T20 capabilities and attract attention.

The first two editions of UPL garnered significant interest, with the inaugural season reaching over 21 million viewers across various platforms. The second edition expanded the competitive landscape, providing more opportunities for players from Uttarakhand.

The inclusion of both men's and women's competitions is central to the League's vision of fostering cricket development across the state. The presence of icon players will elevate the competitive standard and provide learning opportunities for younger cricketers.

Contributing to the Sporting Ecosystem

Beyond cricket, the UPL aims to enhance the sporting ecosystem in Uttarakhand by creating opportunities for players, coaches, support staff, match officials, and administrators involved in organizing a major T20 event.

The tournament will kick off on September 21 and conclude on October 1, 2026, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Dehradun. With the experience gained from previous editions, UPL 2026 is poised to deliver competitive cricket and provide a significant platform for Uttarakhand's talented cricketers.
