Police Inquiry into Ankita Bhandari Murder Case
In light of a controversial audio clip linked to the 2022 murder of Ankita Bhandari, Uttarakhand police have questioned actress Urmila Sanawar, who is the wife of former BJP legislator Suresh Rathore. A senior official confirmed this information on Thursday. Ajay Singh, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Dehradun, stated that the police have recorded Sanawar's statements, as she had sensationally named a "VIP" in connection with the murder case on social media.
Details of the Investigation
The SSP mentioned that inquiries were conducted at the Nehru Colony and Dalanwala police stations regarding cases filed against Sanawar. He added that aside from the video she shared on social media, no other evidence has been uncovered by the police so far. Furthermore, the investigation team has also recorded audio and video of Sanawar's statements. Multiple cases against her have been registered at various police stations in Dehradun and Haridwar under different sections of the law. Previously, the police had issued a notice to Sanawar for questioning.
Political Repercussions and Government Response
Dharmendra Kumar, president of the Shromani Guru Ravidas Vishw Mahapeeth, has filed a complaint at the Bahadarabad police station against Sanawar and Suresh Rathore, accusing them of tarnishing the image of a BJP leader. Earlier, Chief Minister Pushkar Dhami met with the parents of Ankita Bhandari, assuring them that the state government stands with them. He stated that a meeting took place at the official residence, where the parents were promised legal, fair, and swift action regarding their demands. The Chief Minister emphasized that ensuring justice for the victim's family is the government's top priority.
Commitment to Justice
Previously, Dhami reiterated that delivering justice for Uttarakhand's daughter has been the state's utmost priority. He mentioned that the government has approached this case with seriousness, sensitivity, and transparency. During a press conference held at the Secretariat's media center, he addressed questions related to the Ankita Bhandari case, stating that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by female officer Renuka Devi was formed to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation into this heinous crime.
