Uttarakhand Plans Wildlife Rescue Centers for Bears and Other Animals
Establishment of Wildlife Rescue Centers
On Saturday, Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced a new initiative to set up rescue centers for bears and various wild animals across the state. During his address, Dhami highlighted the existing rescue center in Ramnagar, which has successfully rehabilitated numerous tigers and leopards. He emphasized that similar facilities will be created for bears and other wildlife. A comprehensive strategy for implementing these plans will be developed within the next two weeks.
Funding and Resources for Wildlife Management
The Chief Minister further stated that to fully realize these initiatives, the forest department will be equipped with nets, cages, tranquilizer guns, and other necessary resources. An additional budget of ₹5 crore will be allocated to ensure the availability of these resources and effectively mitigate human-wildlife conflicts. Recently, Dhami also discussed the rising incidents of human-wildlife conflicts in the state with the Union Minister for Forests, Environment, and Climate Change.
Inauguration of Food Processing Plants
On Friday, Dhami inaugurated the MB food processing plant in the Bughaawala area. Following this, he visited a mushroom processing facility, where he officially opened another plant. Upon his arrival, local workers and residents welcomed him with a shower of flowers. After the inauguration, the Chief Minister inspected the plant's arrangements and learned about the production processes. He noted that Uttarakhand has made significant advancements in agriculture, horticulture, and food processing.
Innovative Initiatives for Local Employment
Dhami remarked that initiatives like mushroom production in Haridwar are connecting local residents with employment opportunities and creating new avenues for self-employment.
