Uttarakhand on Alert as Two Women, Including Doctor, Test Positive for COVID-19
COVID-19 Cases Confirmed in Uttarakhand
Dehradun: Uttarakhand is on heightened alert following the confirmation of COVID-19 in two women, one of whom is a doctor from AIIMS Rishikesh. Both individuals recently arrived in the state from Bengaluru and Gujarat. Dr. Sunita Tamta, the Director General of Health in Uttarakhand, reported that a 57-year-old woman from Gujarat traveled to Rishikesh for religious activities and later tested positive after showing symptoms of the virus.

No Other Active Cases In Uttarakhand
The woman from Gujarat is currently hospitalized for treatment, while the second patient, a doctor from Bengaluru, is recovering at home and is reported to be in good health. Dr. Tamta confirmed that there are no additional active COVID-19 cases in Uttarakhand at this time. As of May 22, the total number of COVID-19 cases reported nationwide stands at 277, with the majority of active cases located in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.
Increased Testing and Monitoring Efforts
State Ramp Up Testing & Monitoring Of COVID-19 Cases
The emergence of these two COVID-19 cases has led the state to enhance its response measures in accordance with Central Government protocols. Dr. Tamta indicated that Chief Medical Officers throughout Uttarakhand have been instructed to prioritize extensive testing and virus sampling. If any new cases arise, genome sequencing will be performed to determine the variant. Additionally, the monitoring of travelers arriving from other states is being actively conducted, and oxygen plants along with hospital beds are being maintained in readiness as a precautionary measure.
