Inauguration of the Championship

On Wednesday, Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the 25th All India Police Water Sports Cluster Championship through a virtual platform at the Water Sports and Adventure Institute located in Tehri Garhwal. CM Dhami expressed his enthusiasm for the event, stating, 'I have been informed that this championship will feature 51 different competitions, including rowing, canoeing, and trekking. I extend my best wishes to all participating teams.'

Nationwide Participation from Police Forces

According to Sanjay Gunjyal, Additional Director General of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the championship has attracted 19 teams from various Central Armed Police Forces and state police units nationwide. The teams include notable forces such as the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), ITBP, Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), Assam Rifles, and police units from multiple states and union territories.

Event and Athlete Breakdown

The championship will feature a total of 52 events, which include 18 canoeing races, 18 kayaking races, and 16 rowing races. Approximately 470 athletes are participating, with around 130 women and 340 men competing.

Promoting Sportsmanship and National Integration

Organized by the ITBP, the championship is taking place at Wasai in Tehri, Uttarakhand, from April 8 to 12, amidst the picturesque scenery of Tehri Lake. Senior officials, including Shatrujeet Kapur, attended the inauguration. The event aims to foster sportsmanship, discipline, and national unity while highlighting the water sports capabilities of police forces.

Strengthening Border Area Economies

Last week, CM Dhami facilitated the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Chief Minister's residence under the 'Vibrant Village Programme.' This initiative aims to bolster local economies in border regions, with an agreement between the ITBP and the Uttarakhand Horticulture Board to procure locally grown fruits and vegetables for ITBP units stationed throughout the state.
