Engineers Face Suspension After Bridge Road Collapse

Dehradun, August 7 - The Uttarakhand government has taken decisive action by suspending three engineers from the Public Works Department following the collapse of the access road to a bridge over the Tons River in the Premnagar area during heavy rainfall last month. Officials reported that Rajesh Kumar, the Executive Engineer of the Dehradun Provincial Division, was suspended due to allegations of gross negligence in fulfilling his responsibilities related to technical oversight and quality control.

In addition to Kumar, Assistant Engineer Amit Tyagi and Junior Engineer Naveen Gairola from the same division were also suspended for their failure to meet their duties adequately.

This action was taken based on the findings of an investigation into the incident. It is important to note that the access road to the bridge was severely damaged during the heavy rains on July 28, resulting in a significant pothole. The bridge had only been opened for traffic on July 12.
