CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Announces CBI Inquiry
On Friday, Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami declared that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will probe the murder case of Ankita Bhandari, which occurred in 2022. This decision followed a meeting between the Chief Minister and Ankita's parents, who had formally requested a CBI investigation into their daughter's death.
Ankita's father, Virendra Singh Bhandari, and mother, Soni Devi, met with Dhami on Wednesday night, presenting a letter that urged for the case to be investigated under the supervision of a Supreme Court judge.
CM Dhami's Commitment to Justice
In a video message, Dhami emphasized that ensuring justice for Ankita Bhandari is a top priority. He acknowledged the parents' request for a CBI investigation during their meeting and confirmed that the government has decided to proceed with this inquiry. He reiterated the government's commitment to the safety and dignity of women, stating that in Uttarakhand, the rule of law prevails, and offenders will not be spared.
Just a day prior, CM Dhami had met with Ankita's parents, assuring them that the state government stands firmly with them. He mentioned that during their official meeting at his residence, he promised legal, fair, and swift action regarding their demands. The government is dedicated to supporting the victim's family and prioritizing justice for them.
Focus on Thorough Investigation
Dhami reiterated that delivering justice for Uttarakhand's daughter has been the government's utmost priority. He stated that the administration has approached this case with seriousness, sensitivity, and transparency. During a press conference held at the Secretariat's media center, he addressed questions related to the Ankita Bhandari case, revealing that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by female officer Renuka Devi has been established to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation into this heinous crime.
