Meeting Highlights Between Uttarakhand CM and PM Modi
On Tuesday, Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, expressing gratitude for the central government's ongoing support for the state's development. During their discussion, Dhami highlighted significant infrastructure and connectivity projects backed by the central government, including assistance for the Haridwar Kumbh 2027, approvals for road and rail initiatives, and support for helicopter services during the Char Dham pilgrimage.
He also thanked the Prime Minister for approving projects such as the Dehradun Ring Road, underground electrification in Rishikesh, and the Dehradun-Mussoorie road.
Promoting Uttarakhand as a Global Wedding and Tourism Destination
CM Dhami informed Modi about ongoing efforts to establish Uttarakhand as a global wedding and tourism hub, with locations like Rishikesh, Dehradun, and Triyuginarayan gaining popularity. He outlined initiatives aimed at promoting winter tourism and spiritual economic sectors in select areas.
Additionally, Dhami requested support for the expansion of the regional rapid transit system to Haridwar and Rishikesh, as well as for defense manufacturing centers in the state. He proposed major connectivity projects, including the Delhi-Haldwani Expressway and the expansion of regional airstrips.
Strengthening Rail Connectivity and Promoting Tourism
The Chief Minister emphasized the need to enhance rail connectivity, which includes the prompt inauguration of certain sections of the Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail line and proposed new routes for hilly districts. Highlighting state initiatives, Dhami mentioned that over 6,000 homestays have been registered to boost tourism, while plans supporting self-employment and startups through solar energy are contributing to rural livelihoods.
