Uttarakhand Chief Minister's Stance on the Ankita Bhandari Case

On Tuesday, Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami spoke out regarding the controversy surrounding an alleged audio clip linked to the 2022 Ankita Bhandari murder case. He emphasized that the situation is being treated with utmost seriousness and assured that no guilty party would escape justice. The Chief Minister highlighted the need to first verify the authenticity of the viral audio clip.


During a press conference, CM Dhami stated that this is a highly sensitive issue. Upon learning of the incident, he instructed police and relevant departments to ensure the swift arrest of the suspects, leaving no room for anyone to evade capture. All three accused were apprehended promptly, and the body was recovered. They were subsequently found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment.


The Chief Minister insisted that there should be no confusion regarding this case, reiterating that the government's track record shows that anyone found guilty will face consequences, regardless of their status. However, he stressed the importance of confirming the audio's validity. He mentioned that the audio implicates several individuals, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to conduct a thorough investigation. The police are currently attempting to interview those mentioned in the audio.


CM Dhami further stated that if the audio is verified, it would be beneficial for the investigation. Once confirmed, the government is prepared to pursue any necessary inquiries. He reassured that there should be no misunderstandings, as the government's history indicates that wrongdoers will not be spared, no matter who they are. Nonetheless, the verification of the audio remains crucial, and all investigations and forensic tests will be conducted diligently to ensure accountability.
