Cabinet Decision on Ganga Expressway Expansion

Dehradun, August 7 - The Uttarakhand Cabinet has given its approval for signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Uttar Pradesh government to extend the Ganga Expressway from Meerut to Haridwar. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Banshidhar Tiwari, the Director General of Information and Additional Secretary to the Chief Minister, informed reporters that following the MoU, both states will advance the project's framework and implementation.

The ongoing Ganga Expressway, stretching 594 kilometers from Meerut to Prayagraj, is one of Uttar Pradesh's ambitious infrastructure projects. Once completed, it is expected to significantly reduce travel time between western and eastern Uttar Pradesh, while also enhancing freight transport and logistics. The state government believes that extending this expressway to Haridwar will provide Uttarakhand with direct access to the country's major expressway network.

According to government officials, this extension will improve connectivity for pilgrims, tourists, and travelers heading to the Char Dham pilgrimage, while also fostering new opportunities for industrial investment, commercial activities, and job creation. In another decision, the state cabinet approved the transfer of approximately 30 hectares of forest land from a total of 73 hectares available in the Lamachaur area of Haldwani for the construction of a High Court complex.
