Uttar Pradesh's Health Sector: A Growing Consumer Market
Uttar Pradesh's Health Sector Growth
On Sunday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath highlighted that Uttar Pradesh boasts the largest consumer market in the health sector. He made this statement during the inauguration of the three-day 'UP Health Tech Conclave', emphasizing the significance of the event for fostering investment, innovation, and global collaboration in medical technology and healthcare.
Adityanath pointed out that with a population of 250 million, Uttar Pradesh also bears the responsibility of providing healthcare services to neighboring states and the country of Nepal.
Reflecting on the advancements in the health sector since the formation of the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 and the BJP's governance in Uttar Pradesh from 2017, he claimed that the state has achieved substantial success in transforming healthcare in collaboration with the central government over the past eight to nine years. Efforts have been made to enhance the healthcare infrastructure.
He noted, “Before 2017, there were only 40 medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh, combining both public and private sectors. Today, the state has 81 fully operational medical colleges, two AIIMS, and over 100 government-run hospitals at the district level.”
Additionally, the Chief Minister mentioned the extensive network of Primary Health Centers (PHCs), Community Health Centers (CHCs), and wellness centers that provide healthcare access to remote areas.
Over the past 11 years, significant changes have occurred, with Uttar Pradesh issuing 5.5 crore Ayushman Bharat Golden Cards, offering beneficiaries health coverage of up to five lakh rupees annually. He stated that these changes have successfully controlled mortality rates and aligned institutional deliveries with national standards.
