Uttar Pradesh Workers in Israel: Safety Assured Amid Tensions

Safety of UP Workers in Israel Confirmed

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government has confirmed that over 6,000 workers from the state residing in Israel are safe, despite the ongoing tensions in the region. Officials reported on Sunday that the state is in constant communication with Indian authorities to ensure the safety of its citizens.

Shanmuga Sundaram, the Principal Secretary of the Labour and Employment Department, is actively coordinating with the Indian Embassy in Israel to monitor the situation and safeguard the interests of Indian nationals, especially those from Uttar Pradesh.

The embassy has assured that all Indian workers are unharmed, with no emergencies or significant threats reported thus far.

Following directives from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state government is diligently overseeing the welfare of its workers.

Officials noted that the state is in regular contact with J P Singh, India’s Ambassador to Israel, who has provided updates confirming the safety of all Indian workers, including those from Uttar Pradesh.

In communications dated March 11, 17, and 28, the ambassador reiterated that all workers are secure.

While there is understandable concern regarding the situation, officials stated that there has been no substantial demand from workers wishing to return to India. The embassy is maintaining close contact with them to address any needs.

Additionally, some workers from Uttar Pradesh have recently hosted Indian journalists, indicating that life is continuing as normal.

Dr. Garika Tejeshwar, the embassy's First Secretary, has also confirmed that all workers from the state are safe, with no incidents reported.

Sundaram mentioned that a few Indian nationals, primarily traders and students, have returned voluntarily through Jordan with the embassy's help, and similar arrangements can be made for workers if necessary.

Officials emphasized that the embassy's control room has not received any serious emergency messages, and all workers are following local safety guidelines.

The Uttar Pradesh government is closely monitoring the situation and has assured workers of its support, stating it will facilitate their return if they choose to come back.

A helpline managed by Israel's Population and Immigration Authority is also available to assist workers in various languages. Despite occasional missile attacks, the overall situation for Indian workers, particularly from Uttar Pradesh, remains stable.
