Sitapur, Sep 22: Authorities in Sitapur, Uttar Pradesh, successfully arrested Avadh Ram, also known as Bhole Shankar, just 12 hours after he allegedly assaulted a six-year-old girl. Reports indicate that he lured the child into a sugarcane field before committing the crime. During the police operation to apprehend him, he fired at the officers and was injured in the exchange.
The young victim underwent a medical examination that confirmed the assault, prompting the Superintendent of Police to announce a reward of ₹25,000 for information leading to the suspect's capture.
According to CO (Mahmoodabad) Kapoor Kumar, police teams were mobilized under the guidance of the Sitapur Superintendent of Police to conduct ongoing raids to locate the suspect.
"On September 22, based on a tip-off, we located the suspect early in the morning near Berra village. Upon seeing our team, he opened fire, and the police responded in self-defense," Kumar explained.
"He was injured during the incident and has been taken to the hospital. We recovered a revolver, two live cartridges, and ₹350 in cash from him. Legal proceedings are underway," he added.
In an unrelated case, a 17-year-old girl was reportedly gang-raped by a bus driver and conductor in the Delhi-NCR area after they offered her a ride during heavy rain on August 31.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on August 4, during a 60-km journey from Pari Chowk in Greater Noida to Sector 63 in Noida, where the girl was later abandoned.
The suspects, identified as driver Kuldeep and conductor Sandeep, both aged 29, have been arrested, and the bus has been confiscated for forensic analysis.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Niharika Bhatt stated that the victim, a Class 11 student, had left home to visit her cousin in Noida. While navigating through heavy rain and darkness, she mistakenly arrived at Pari Chowk in Greater Noida.
An empty sleeper bus stopped when she signaled for help, and the driver and conductor offered to take her to Noida Sector 63.
