Court Ruling on Abbas Ansari
In Uttar Pradesh, the MP-MLA court has sentenced Abbas Ansari, a legislator from the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, to two years in prison for delivering an inflammatory speech. The court also imposed a six-month jail term on his close associate, Mansoor Ansari. CJM Krishna Pratap Singh issued the maximum two-year sentence under IPC Section 506, along with a fine of ₹3,000 and additional short-term imprisonment for various sections of the case.
Details of the Incident
When the court initially found Abbas guilty, he was physically present in the courtroom. Due to his arrival, strict security measures were implemented in and around the court premises. During the 2022 assembly elections, while contesting as a candidate from the Mau Sadar seat under the SP-SBSP alliance, Abbas allegedly threatened officials during a public meeting in the Pahadpur area on the night of March 3, 2022, stating, “Once the SP-led government is formed, officials will have to account for their actions before being transferred from the previous government.”
Viral Speech
A video of Abbas's speech from the Pahadpur area began circulating on social media late on March 3. In the footage, Abbas is seen stating, "Before departing from Lucknow to contest from Mau, I had a detailed discussion with my brother Akhilesh (SP chief Akhilesh Yadav). I mentioned that after the government is formed, the transfer list of officials should not be released for six months. Officials must first account for their work before their transfer certificates are signed."
