Minister's Remarks on Opposition Tactics

On Tuesday, Om Prakash Rajbhar, a minister from Uttar Pradesh, commented on the protests at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. He stated that opposition parties are merely fulfilling their roles through slogans, songs, and noise. Rajbhar pointed out that some opposition groups focus solely on opposing the government, often resorting to chants, songs, and disturbances to express their dissent.

His remarks came in the wake of a Supreme Court decision regarding the alleged conspiracy behind the 2020 Northeast Delhi riots, which involved cases against Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam. The court had recently denied their bail applications. However, it granted bail to several others, including Gulfiya Fatima, Meeraan Haider, Shifa Ur Rahman, Mohammad Saleem Khan, and Shadab Ahmad.

Rajbhar also praised the 'Developed India - Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural)' bill of 2025, calling it a beneficial initiative for rural workers. He emphasized that this program would provide 125 days of work and ensure timely payments within seven days for any pending dues.

Congress Party's Response to New Legislation

In related news, the Congress Party has announced a nationwide movement against the central government's new VB-G Ramji Act, titled 'Save MGNREGA.' This campaign will unfold over 45 days, with the first phase, named 'Save MGNREGA Struggle,' set to commence on January 8. The initiative aims to involve all states, districts, blocks, and gram panchayats.
