Significant Relief for Farmers and Disaster-Affected Families

Lucknow: In a move to support farmers and families affected by disasters, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has announced substantial relief measures ahead of Diwali. The government has revised the standards for disaster relief funds, increasing the compensation for crop losses by 25 to 30 percent. This decision is expected to benefit over one million farmers across the state.

Increased Financial Aid for Families of Disaster Victims

The Yogi government has doubled the financial assistance provided to families who lose loved ones due to natural disasters. Previously, the aid was set at ₹4 lakh, which has now been raised to ₹8 lakh.

Compensation Details for Crop Losses

The government has categorized the compensation for crop losses into different segments, with the new rates as follows:

Type of Crop or Agricultural Land Loss Previous Assistance New Assistance
Loss in Irrigated Areas ₹17,000 ₹22,000 per hectare
Loss in Rainfed Areas ₹8,500 ₹11,000 per hectare
Perennial Crops and Agroforestry ₹22,500 ₹30,000 per hectare
Clearing Silt from Fields ₹18,000 ₹23,000 per hectare
Loss of Agricultural Land due to Landslides ₹47,000 ₹60,000 per hectare

These adjustments will provide farmers with greater financial support for crop losses caused by natural disasters.

Support for Livestock Owners

The Yogi government has also increased the relief amount for livestock losses:

  • Assistance for the death of large animals has been raised from ₹40,000 to ₹50,000.

  • For smaller animals like goats, sheep, and pigs, the aid has increased from ₹4,000 to ₹5,500.

  • Support for pack animals such as horses and mules has been raised from ₹20,000 to ₹25,400.

  • Poultry farmers will now receive ₹130 per bird instead of ₹100.

This decision is expected to provide relief not only to farmers but also to those involved in livestock and poultry farming.

Increased Aid for Sericulture Farmers

The government has also decided to extend support to sericulture farmers. For losses in eri, mulberry, and tasar silk production, the assistance has increased from ₹6,000 to ₹7,800 per hectare. Additionally, for losses in muga silk production, the aid has been raised from ₹7,500 to ₹9,800 per hectare.

Support for Damaged Homes and Schools

New standards for assistance have also been established for homes damaged by natural disasters. In plain areas, families with completely damaged homes will receive ₹1.85 lakh, while those in hilly regions will get ₹2.06 lakh. Furthermore, up to ₹15.50 lakh will be provided for repairing damaged primary schools, and up to ₹26 lakh for secondary schools, intermediate colleges, and polytechnic institutions.

New Rules Effective from April 1

According to the revised relief standards, compensation for losses incurred between April 1, 2026, and November 4, 2026, will also be calculated based on the new rates. This assistance will be provided in accordance with the eligibility criteria set by the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF).

The Yogi government's decision is anticipated to offer significant financial support to farmers, livestock owners, and families affected by natural disasters.
