Formation of High-Level Committee in Response to Labor Unrest

In light of ongoing protests by workers in Noida regarding long-standing demands for wage revisions, the Uttar Pradesh government has established a high-level committee to address the escalating industrial unrest in Gautam Buddha Nagar district. This initiative follows directives from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The state labor department is taking steps to safeguard workers' interests and restore normalcy, aiming to ensure industrial harmony and public order through effective communication with all stakeholders.

According to the administration, the committee has been formed to consult with all stakeholders and work towards resolving workers' grievances, particularly in light of recent demonstrations. The committee will be chaired by the Commissioner of Industrial Development of Uttar Pradesh. The Additional Chief Secretary (MSME) and the Principal Secretary (Labor and Employment) have been appointed as members, while an officer nominated from Kanpur will serve as the member secretary. Additionally, the committee will include five representatives from labor unions and three representatives from industrial associations.

The high-level committee has already arrived in Gautam Buddha Nagar and will soon submit its report to the government after prioritizing the investigation of the issues at hand. A significant number of workers from various industrial units gathered in the morning to voice their long-standing demand for wage increases, chanting slogans during the protests. The demonstrations by factory workers in Noida's Phase 2 and Sector 60 escalated into violence, resulting in vehicles being set ablaze, property damage, and incidents of stone-pelting.

Reports of similar protests have also emerged from Sector 84, including a unit of the Madarson Group. Protesters blocked National Highway 9, causing significant traffic disruptions. This unrest led to a standstill in traffic, trapping thousands of commuters on roads heading to Delhi during the busy morning hours. Long queues of vehicles were observed stretching for several kilometers at the Delhi-Noida border.
