Lucknow: Over the last two days, Uttar Pradesh has been severely impacted by extreme weather, including torrential rains, fierce storms, and lightning strikes, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 24 lives. Official sources report that 15 individuals sustained injuries, and 16 animals perished due to these harsh conditions.
Numerous districts have experienced relentless rainfall, strong winds, and frequent lightning, leading to significant disruptions in daily life. The hardest-hit groups include farmers working outdoors, individuals caught in the elements, and families living in mud houses. Reports indicate widespread issues such as fallen trees, power outages, and waterlogged areas.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and assured that the state government is committed to supporting all those affected during this challenging time.
He has instructed officials to provide immediate medical care for the injured and ensure that essential healthcare services are available in hospitals. Additionally, he mandated that compensation for the deceased, injured, and losses of livestock be disbursed within 24 hours.
District Magistrates and relevant authorities have been directed to accelerate relief and rescue operations. The Chief Minister emphasized that any negligence or delay in delivering assistance will not be tolerated.
Relief teams are actively working in the impacted districts, conducting door-to-door assessments of damage and providing necessary support to those in need.
In a related note, the India Meteorological Department has warned of ongoing heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in various regions of the state in the coming days, suggesting that the danger is not yet over.
Weather conditions are also changing in other northern Indian areas. Regions such as Delhi and the National Capital Region experienced rainfall and hailstorms on Thursday, offering some respite from the heatwave. The IMD has also forecasted light to moderate showers for Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on Friday.
