Extension of Voter Roll Revision in Uttar Pradesh
The timeline for the special intensive revision of voter rolls in Uttar Pradesh has been prolonged, as announced by the state's chief electoral officer on Tuesday.
The draft voter list is now set to be released on January 6, with the final version expected on March 6.
Originally, the draft list was to be published on December 26, but after an extension from the Election Commission, the date was pushed to December 31.
According to the revised schedule, claims and objections will be accepted from January 6 to February 6. The process for issuing notices, addressing claims and objections, and finalizing enumeration forms will take place from January 6 to February 27.

The enumeration phase for the special intensive revision across 12 states and Union Territories, including Uttar Pradesh, commenced on November 4.
On December 11, the Election Commission also extended the timeline for the special intensive revision in five additional states: Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
In these five regions, approximately 95 lakh individuals were removed from the draft voter lists due to reasons such as death, relocation, or multiple registrations.
Overall, around 3.6 crore electors have been deleted from the electoral rolls across 11 states and Union Territories during this revision process.
In Bihar, where the revision was finalized prior to the Assembly elections in November, at least 47 lakh voters were excluded from the final electoral roll.
Concerns were raised following the announcement in Bihar, with fears that eligible voters might be removed from the rolls. Several petitioners have approached the Supreme Court regarding this issue.
