Uttar Pradesh Experiences Significant Rainfall Deficit Amid Weak Monsoon Activity

Current Rainfall Situation in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, August 3: Uttar Pradesh has recorded a rainfall deficit of 29 percent compared to the normal levels, with monsoon activities remaining subdued. This information was shared in an official statement by the meteorological department on Monday.

According to the regional meteorological center in Lucknow, as of August 3, the state has received 271.3 millimeters of rain against the normal of 380.4 millimeters. The department noted that eastern Uttar Pradesh has seen a 34 percent shortfall in rainfall, with 268.3 millimeters recorded compared to the normal of 408.9 millimeters. In western Uttar Pradesh, rainfall was 275.5 millimeters, which is 19 percent below the average of 340.6 millimeters.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated that a cyclonic circulation in the upper atmosphere over northern Madhya Pradesh and adjacent southern Uttar Pradesh could enhance monsoon activities in the state. The department forecasts widespread rainfall, along with thunderstorms and heavy showers in some areas, until August 7.

As per the weather department, light to moderate rain with thunderstorms is expected across most parts of the state on August 4 and 5, while heavy rainfall is likely in certain areas on August 6.

The department also mentioned that heavy rainfall may continue in some parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh on August 7, but no heavy rain warnings have been issued for western Uttar Pradesh.
