Uttar Pradesh Draft Voter List Unveiled Today

Lucknow, January 6, 2026: The Election Commission is set to release the draft voter list today following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process in Uttar Pradesh. The Chief Electoral Officer, Navdeep Rinhwa, will hold a press conference this afternoon to share official figures. It is estimated that approximately 2.89 crore names could be removed from the previous list, which included 15.44 crore voters, leaving around 12.55 crore voters in the draft list.

Reasons for Name Removals

  • Main Reasons: Deaths (around 4.6 million), permanent transfers (12.6 million), duplicate entries (2.3-2.4 million), long-term absentees or untraceable individuals (8.3-8.4 million), and other factors.
  • This process aims to clean and ensure the accuracy of the voter list, with the highest number of removals occurring in urban areas such as Lucknow, Ghaziabad, Prayagraj, and Kanpur.
  • Mapping for nearly 1 crore voters is still incomplete, and notices will be sent to them requesting documentation.

What to Do If Your Name Is Removed

  • If your name is not on the draft list, do not panic. Claims and objections can be submitted from January 6 to February 6, 2026.
  • Fill out Form 6 to add your name or apply for restoration.
  • Untraceable voters must present their names from the 2003 SIR list or provide specified documents (such as Aadhaar, passport, etc.).
  • The final list will be published on March 6, 2026, after resolving objections.
