Call for Renaming Aligarh

On Thursday, Keshav Maurya, the Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, expressed his desire for Aligarh to be renamed Harigarh, drawing comparisons to other cities like Ayodhya and Prayagraj.

Maurya stated, "As you know, Ayodhya was previously known as Faizabad, but thanks to our esteemed Chief Minister Adityanath, it has reverted to its original name. Similarly, Prayagraj was once Allahabad. Just recently, Jalalabad in Shahjahanpur was renamed Parshurampuri. Therefore, there should be no hesitation in renaming Aligarh to Harigarh," as reported by a news agency.

His remarks were made during the 'Hindu Gaurav Diwas' event, commemorating the death anniversary of former Chief Minister Kalyan Singh. He also called for Singh to be honored with the Bharat Ratna.

Earlier, on August 18, BJP MLA Ketki Singh proposed renaming Ghazipur after Mahrishi Gautam, the father of Seer Parshuram. She mentioned that she has sent a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath regarding this matter.

Singh argued that such names should be changed as they evoke memories of disgrace and glorify invaders. She stated, "I want the name of Ghazipur district to be altered. Changing the name will motivate future generations. A nation that forgets its history cannot forge its future. If you lose sight of your roots, you will struggle to create a future."
