Legal Action Against Congress Leaders in Varanasi

Ajay Rai, the head of the Uttar Pradesh Congress, along with ten others, has been charged with obstructing a road and causing public disorder in Varanasi. In response, the Congress leader defended their actions, asserting that their goal was to highlight the unacceptable condition of the roads in the area. Rai stated that the BJP government is filing multiple cases against them simply because they are taking to the streets to awaken the government.

Rai emphasized that with the onset of the Sawan month, the city is filled with potholes. He mentioned visiting a Kanwariya camp the previous day, where there was also a lack of electricity. Sanjay Kumar, the station house officer at the Sigra station, noted that the protest march caused inconvenience to the public, particularly affecting those heading to transport hubs like the railway station and bus stand, as well as emergency services such as ambulances.

He further explained that individuals trying to reach the station and bus stand were stuck along the route. According to a complaint filed by Vikal Shandilya, the in-charge of the Vidyapeeth police outpost, a case has been registered against Ajay Rai and ten named individuals, along with 40-50 unidentified persons, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 285 (obstruction of public way), 326(B) (carrying dangerous weapons), and 126(2) (wrongfully restraining someone). In light of these events, Ajay Rai remarked that the BJP government is completely frightened and anxious.
