Uttar Pradesh Congress Chief Faces Legal Action Over Controversial Remarks Against PM Modi
Legal Trouble for Ajay Rai
Mahoba/Lucknow: Ajay Rai, the head of the Uttar Pradesh Congress, has been charged for allegedly making derogatory comments about Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an event in Mahoba district, as reported by local authorities on Saturday.
The complaint was filed at the Kotwali Nagar police station by Neeraj Rawat, a member of the BJP.
Rawat's allegations state that Rai participated in a program on May 22 in Samad Nagar, organized by former Congress secretary Brijraj Ahirwar. He claimed that Rai arrived with a large entourage of 15-16 vehicles and 25-30 supporters, which obstructed traffic and disrupted normal activities in the area.
The complaint further indicated that law enforcement and administrative officials had to divert from their regular responsibilities to ensure order at the event.
Additionally, Rawat accused Rai of using offensive language against the Prime Minister, asserting that recordings of these remarks circulated widely on social media.
A video surfaced on Friday, purportedly showing Rai making inappropriate comments about Modi during the Mahoba event.
In response, Rai dismissed the video as fabricated and AI-generated by the BJP, stating he would file a police report regarding the matter upon his return to Lucknow.
BJP officials, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and state president Pankaj Chaudhary, have condemned Rai's remarks.
Authorities confirmed that an FIR has been filed against Rai, Brijraj Ahirwar, and approximately 25-30 unidentified supporters.
The FIR cites several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including wrongful restraint, assault against public servants, unlawful assembly, promoting enmity among groups, and intentional insult aimed at provoking a breach of peace.
Rawat's complaint emphasized that Rai's comments offended public sentiments, incited anger among BJP members, and escalated social tensions. He provided a pen drive containing the viral video as evidence and requested legal action against Rai, Ahirwar, and the unidentified supporters.
This incident unfolds amid ongoing political tensions in Uttar Pradesh, following Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's recent remarks labeling the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and the RSS as traitors during a rally in Raebareli.
Earlier this week, mutual complaints were lodged in Lucknow against Gandhi and Uttar Pradesh minister Dinesh Pratap Singh concerning these remarks and the subsequent reactions.
