Significant Development Initiatives in Uttar Pradesh
On Monday, Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, announced that the state would experience a renewed momentum in development, good governance, and public welfare efforts. He inaugurated and laid the foundation for 66 projects in the assembly constituencies of Barkheda and Bisalpur, with a total investment exceeding ₹569 crores. Additionally, in Moradabad, he launched 63 development projects worth over ₹365 crores, which included initiatives in Moradabad Nagar, Moradabad Dehat, and Kundarki assembly areas, as well as projects from the municipal corporation and the Moradabad Development Authority.
The day prior, Adityanath reviewed development works, law and order situations, and the proposed action plan of the Public Works Department (PWD) for the Agra division. During a high-level meeting at the Divisional Commissioner's auditorium, he instructed officials to ensure quality and accountability in all infrastructure projects. He emphasized that any deficiencies in development works would not be tolerated and that quality must never be compromised. Adityanath pointed out that Agra, now a metro city, should have water supply, roads, sewage systems, and beautification facilities that meet metro standards.
According to an official statement, he directed officials to immediately halt heavy vehicle traffic on rural roads and to recover repair costs from vehicle owners who damage the roads. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the poor repairs of roads excavated for the Jal Jeevan Mission, AMRUT scheme, sewer line projects, and other infrastructure works.
Adityanath warned that engineers and contractors would be held directly accountable for substandard construction. He instructed officials to file FIRs against those responsible for inferior work and initiate legal action. The Chief Minister also reviewed legal hurdles affecting the expansion of Agra Airport, the construction of new bridges, and road widening projects due to pending cases in the National Green Tribunal and the Supreme Court. He urged officials to ensure that development projects do not face delays and to form a panel of senior lawyers to effectively represent the government's interests in court.
He also mentioned that alternative routes should be created to preserve land with old trees that obstruct road widening efforts. Adityanath expressed concern over illegal mining activities from neighboring states, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, and instructed officials to enhance surveillance at state borders and coordinate with these states to address the issue. Furthermore, he directed officials to tackle the problem of stray animals to protect farmers' crops. During the meeting, local representatives raised demands for several key infrastructure projects, including the Dayalbagh-Khandoli bypass, a new bridge over the Yamuna, the Etmadpur bypass, and solutions for waterlogging on Gwalior Road. The Chief Minister ordered that these proposals be included in the development plan.
He also prioritized the reconstruction of the Govardhan Parikrama route using modern technology to enhance facilities for pilgrims undertaking religious walks.
