According to police reports, the accident occurred early in the morning on January 17, when Mehta's car veered off course in dense fog and plunged into a pit over 20 feet deep, which had been excavated for a basement of a construction site in Sector 150. The pit, where he met his demise, was filled with water and located near a drain at an intersection under the jurisdiction of the Knowledge Park police station in Greater Noida. The authority has also issued show-cause notices to other officials and staff involved in traffic management around Sector 150, seeking explanations for their negligence.
