The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has given the green light to several key initiatives in the higher education sector, including the establishment of three new private universities and the launch of an international scholarship program aimed at economically disadvantaged yet talented students. The state's Higher Education Minister, Yogendra Upadhyay, announced these decisions, highlighting their importance in enhancing access to quality education for local students and expanding global opportunities.


Approval for Three New Private Universities

New Institutions Set to Open


Vedanta University, Muzaffarnagar: The Lala Fatehchand Charitable Trust will establish Vedanta University in Muzaffarnagar. This institution will be built on 23.33 acres of land, meeting the regulatory requirement of 20 acres for urban areas. Both the higher education department and the state-level expert committee have approved this proposal. The trust is required to complete all formalities and commence operations within two years.


Bodhisattva University, Barabanki: Bodhisattva University, located in Barabanki, has received operational approval under the Uttar Pradesh Private Universities (Third Amendment) Act after fulfilling all regulatory requirements. With sufficient land and necessary approvals in place, the university is now authorized to begin academic activities.


KD University, Mathura: KD University in Mathura, which already operates a dental college, has now been granted permission to function as a full-fledged university. With over 50 acres of land, exceeding the minimum requirement of 20 acres for urban universities, and having completed all necessary formalities and committee recommendations, it is ready to initiate academic programs.


New International Scholarship Program for Higher Studies in the UK

Historic Initiative Inspired by Former Prime Minister


The Cabinet has also approved a historic international scholarship program named "Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Shivaling Uttar Pradesh State Scholarship Scheme," inspired by the contributions of the late former Prime Minister. This initiative, launched in collaboration with the British government, particularly the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and its administrative branch, the British Council, aims to sponsor deserving students from low-income families for one-year master's degree programs at prestigious British universities.
