Uttar Pradesh Becomes India's Expressway Hub with Ganga Expressway Launch
Uttar Pradesh's New Milestone
Uttar Pradesh has officially earned the title of India's expressway capital. With the inauguration of the 594-kilometer-long Ganga Expressway by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state has become the first in the country to boast the highest number of expressways. This achievement means that Uttar Pradesh now accounts for 60 percent of the nation's total expressway network. The Ganga Expressway is not only significant in terms of its length but also holds great strategic and economic importance.
Strategic Features of the Ganga Expressway
A unique 3.5-kilometer-long airstrip has been constructed along this expressway, allowing Indian Air Force fighter jets to make emergency landings. Future plans include connecting it to Haridwar and Jewar International Airport, which will enhance trade activities between western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The expressway features 381 underpasses, 14 major bridges, and 929 smaller bridges.
