USA Cricket Team Prepares for World Cup

The USA cricket team is set to launch their World Cup journey against co-hosts and reigning champions India at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on February 7. Spinner Nosthush Kenjige expressed his eagerness for the tournament to commence.

In a recent interview, Kenjige admitted, "I would be dishonest if I said I wasn't feeling nervous, but I am equally excited."

The USA finds itself in Group A alongside Namibia, the Netherlands, India, and Pakistan. The 34-year-old left-arm orthodox bowler has participated in 23 T20 internationals, claiming 21 wickets. The team will play two matches in Chennai and one in Colombo, where the pitches favor spin bowlers.

A Significant Moment for the Team

Regarding their participation in the World Cup in India, Kenjige remarked, "This is a monumental occasion for us. Competing in a World Cup here is thrilling, and we are eager to face one of the top teams globally. It’s the perfect opportunity to test ourselves."

Facing India and Pakistan in Group A

When asked about being grouped with India and Pakistan, Kenjige stated, "If it were up to me, I would have chosen these teams. We want to challenge ourselves against the best, and these two Asian nations are formidable opponents. We have been performing well against Namibia and the Netherlands over the past few years, so we are looking forward to the matches."

The USA's campaign kicks off against India on February 7 in Mumbai. Kenjige noted, "Our team is confident in our ability to compete against any opponent. India, as the current World Champion, has many players capable of changing the game. If I had to highlight one, it would be Abhishek, given his impactful starts. However, we have our strategies ready and aim to execute them effectively."

Adapting to Indian Conditions

This marks the USA's second appearance in the T20 World Cup, having qualified directly after a strong performance in the Super 8 stage of the 2024 edition, which included a victory over Pakistan.

Commenting on the playing conditions in India, Kenjige shared, "We are fortunate that the USA has diverse weather patterns. Living in Texas, I experience hot weather, and we have played extensively in humid conditions in Dallas and Florida, as well as in pleasant California. I don’t anticipate the weather being an issue. However, the conditions here are distinct. We have acclimatized to the subcontinent climate, and it will be an exciting challenge for our batters. We are thrilled to play in Mumbai."

USA Squad for the T20 World Cup

Monank Patel will captain the USA squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, featuring 10 key players from their debut campaign in 2024. Alongside Patel, the squad includes Jessy Singh, Andries Gous, Milind Kumar, Shayan Jahangir, Harmeet Singh, Nosthush Kenjige, Shadley Van Schalkwyk, Saurabh Netravalkar, and Ali Khan, as confirmed by the ICC. The experience of Harmeet, Milind, and Saurabh, who have played age-group and state cricket in India, may provide an advantage to the USA.

USA Squad: Monank Patel (C), Jessy Singh, Andries Gous, Shehan Jayasuriya, Milind Kumar, Shayan Jahangir, Saiteja Mukkamala, Sanjay Krishnamurthi, Harmeet Singh, Nosthush Kenjige, Shadley Van Schalkwyk, Saurabh Netravalkar, Ali Khan, Mohammad Mohsin, Shubham Ranjane.
