US Military Options Against Iran: CENTCOM Briefs Trump Amid Escalating Tensions
US Military Briefing on Iran
President Donald Trump received a briefing from the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) regarding new military strategies concerning Iran, as reported by Axios. The briefing, which lasted 45 minutes, was conducted by CENTCOM Commander Brad Cooper alongside the Chairperson of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. This briefing coincides with reports from The Jerusalem Post indicating that the US has sent approximately 6,500 tonnes of military supplies and munitions to Israel in a rapid 24-hour period, suggesting a potential escalation in the region. Israel’s Defence Ministry confirmed that these supplies arrived via two cargo ships and several aircraft as part of a coordinated logistics effort, with the vessels docking at the Ports of Ashdod and Haifa. The shipment comprised thousands of air and ground munitions, military trucks, Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs), and other defense materials, which were subsequently distributed to military bases across Israel using hundreds of trucks.
Ongoing Military Buildup
Massive Build-Up Since ‘Operation Roaring Lion’
Israel stated that this latest shipment is part of a larger military buildup initiated with Operation Roaring Lion. According to the Defence Ministry, since the operation began, Israel has received over 115,600 tonnes of military supplies through 403 airlifts and 10 sealifts. Defence Minister Israel Katz emphasized that Israel is ready to take action against its adversaries at any moment, with indications that these shipments will not only continue but also increase in the upcoming weeks.
CENTCOM's New Military Strategy
CENTCOM Drafts ‘Short And Powerful’ Iran Strike Plan
Axios reports that CENTCOM has developed a new strategy for potential military action against Iran. This plan reportedly includes a series of 'short and powerful' strikes aimed at critical infrastructure to disrupt the current fragile ceasefire. Additional considerations for the strategy include securing the Strait of Hormuz to maintain uninterrupted commercial shipping and conducting a special forces operation to secure Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium. These options indicate Washington's readiness to escalate military actions if necessary.
Economic Pressure Remains a Priority
Trump Signals Economic Pressure Still Primary Tool
Despite the military preparations, Trump has expressed that economic sanctions remain his primary strategy. In a recent interview, he stated that the blockade on Iran has proven to be 'more effective than bombing' and warned that pressure would increase if Tehran does not address US concerns regarding its nuclear program. Concurrently, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian cautioned that the US might initiate new attacks even while diplomatic discussions are ongoing. In talks with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, Pezeshkian remarked that trust in the US has been 'completely destroyed,' adding that while dialogue has always been a priority, the US and Israel have previously attacked Iran during negotiations, raising concerns about future actions.
