US Military Action in Response to Iranian Aggression

In the early hours of June 27, the United States executed military strikes targeting Iran, prompted by an alleged Iranian assault on a commercial cargo vessel navigating the Strait of Hormuz. A statement from the US Central Command (CENTCOM) on June 26 indicated that these strikes were aimed at Iranian missile and drone storage facilities, as well as coastal radar installations, following the attack on the Singapore-flagged M/V Ever Lovely.

CENTCOM reported that the Iranian forces utilized a one-way attack drone to strike the cargo ship on June 25 while it was departing the Strait of Hormuz near the Omani coastline. The military characterized the operation as "a decisive response to the previous day's aggression against a commercial vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz." They emphasized that Iran's actions represented a clear violation of the ceasefire and jeopardized the freedom of navigation in this crucial international trade route.

Simultaneously, Iranian media outlets reported an explosion in Sirik, southern Iran, though the origin of the blast was not immediately determined. This military response came after President Donald Trump hinted at potential consequences for Iran following the alleged attack on the cargo ship, stating, "You'll find out." CENTCOM reassured that US forces are actively coordinating to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and remain vigilant to uphold the terms of the agreement with Iran.
