Strengthening Ties Between the US and India

New Delhi, March 13: The United States and India are on the verge of finalizing a significant agreement concerning critical minerals, which is expected to enhance their strategic collaboration and supply chains, as stated by US Ambassador Sergio Gor on Friday.

During his address at the India Today Conclave 2026, Gor emphasized that the increasing interaction between the two nations signifies a more profound partnership that transcends traditional trade relations. His comments follow the recent establishment of a framework for a Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) aimed at boosting economic collaboration.

“The US and India are closely observing each other, indicating a deeper connection — a partnership that is steadily strengthening,” Gor remarked, highlighting that the relationship is evolving into a new phase of strategic cooperation.

He noted that under President Donald Trump, the relationship between the two nations has the potential to achieve unprecedented heights.

“What was essential was to create momentum and seize opportunities, and we are now progressing towards realizing those opportunities and potential,” the Ambassador stated.

Gor emphasized that the US-India partnership extends beyond tariffs and market access, focusing instead on securing resources and fortifying supply chains that will influence the global economy in the future.

“This partnership is not merely about tariffs or market access; it is also about securing resources and supply chains that will shape the global economy of tomorrow,” he explained.

He highlighted that critical minerals have become a vital area of collaboration between the two countries.

“One of the most crucial aspects of our cooperation is critical minerals. Reliable and diversified supply chains for these minerals are essential for both economic growth and national security,” he stated.

According to the Ambassador, the US and India are nearing the completion of a critical minerals agreement that will secure the supply chains necessary for advanced manufacturing, energy systems, and emerging technologies.

“A significant announcement regarding this is expected within the next few months,” he added.

Ambassador Gor also pointed out the expanding cooperation in high-tech sectors. He referred to recent advancements in India's semiconductor industry, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated new facilities and celebrated progress in this sector, reflecting the growing collaboration between the two nations.

“The US is also a dependable supplier of LNG, and we are prepared to assist India in meeting its increasing energy demands in the coming years,” he remarked.

During his speech, Gor praised the latest cover of India Today magazine featuring President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, mentioning that it had garnered attention from the White House as well.

“I captured a photo of the cover and sent it to President Trump, who shared it on Truth Social,” he concluded.
