US Forces Intensify Operations Against Iranian Threats in Strait of Hormuz
Escalation of Military Actions in West Asia
As the conflict in West Asia approaches its third week, the United States has reported a significant reduction in Iran's capability to disrupt maritime activities in the Strait of Hormuz. General Dan Caine, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, informed the media at the Pentagon that US forces have successfully eliminated 44 Iranian vessels involved in mine-laying, thereby restricting Tehran's ability to mine this vital waterway. Caine emphasized that US Central Command (CENTCOM) is actively targeting critical Iranian military assets.
“Our operations include the destruction of mine storage facilities and naval ammunition depots, as well as targeting afloat assets, which encompass over 120 vessels and 44 mine layers. We will maintain this pressure,” he stated.
To bolster its operations in the area, the US has deployed A-10 Warthog aircraft and AH-64 Apache helicopters. Caine noted, “The A-10 is currently operational along the southern flank, focusing on fast attack crafts in the Strait of Hormuz, while AH-64 Apaches are also engaged in missions in the region.”
According to reports, the A-10, a long-standing asset of the US Air Force since the 1970s, is designed for close air support and is armed with a 30mm cannon capable of firing up to 4,200 rounds per minute. Additionally, it was mentioned that two of the US Navy's three mine-countermeasure warships stationed in Bahrain are currently out of service due to scheduled maintenance elsewhere.
Military analysts have indicated that US Marines might be involved in ground operations targeting Iranian coastal facilities, including missile and drone storage that threaten both military and commercial shipping.
In a related statement, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth affirmed that Washington is adhering to its strategic plan against Iran, although he refrained from specifying a timeline for the conflict's resolution, indicating that the ultimate decision lies with President Donald Trump.
