A strategic bomber from the United States has touched down in the United Kingdom as officials caution about a possible increase in military actions against Iran, now entering its eighth day of conflict. The Rockwell B-1 Lancer, measuring 146 feet, arrived at RAF Fairford on Friday evening. This deployment follows the UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's approval for what has been termed as 'defensive' US operations targeting Iranian missile installations from British bases. Concurrently, efforts to repatriate British citizens from the area are ongoing. A second government-chartered flight transporting UK nationals from Oman landed at Gatwick Airport around 00:30 on Saturday, adding to the approximately 6,500 British citizens who have returned from the United Arab Emirates since the escalation of hostilities.

The B-1 Lancer is a long-range supersonic bomber, commonly known as the 'Bone' within the US Air Force. It was introduced into service in 1986 and is recognized as one of the fastest bombers in the US military arsenal. The aircraft spans about 44.5 meters in length and has a weight of around 86 tonnes. It can achieve speeds exceeding 1,448 km/h (approximately Mach 1.25) and boasts an operational range of over 9,400 km without the need for aerial refueling. The B-1 Lancer is equipped with three internal weapons bays, allowing for a total payload capacity of up to 56,700 kg.
