Rising Land Values and Stagnant Compensation Rates
In recent years, the market value of land in the Yamuna Authority region, particularly around Jewar and its neighboring areas, has seen an unprecedented surge. However, the current circle rates and compensation amounts have remained unchanged for a long time, leading to dissatisfaction among local farmers and landowners.
It has been noted that the Greater Noida Authority is considering an increase in compensation rates within its jurisdiction, which is a positive development. Similarly, in the Yamuna Authority area—where the value of land has rapidly escalated due to the Noida International Airport, industrial investments, and infrastructure expansion—a reassessment of compensation rates has become critically necessary.
The honorable legislator has put forth several key demands to the authority:
- A prompt review of the current circle rates and compensation amounts.
- A proposal to be presented in the upcoming board meeting to adjust compensation in line with market rates.
- Assurance of fair, balanced, and respectful compensation for farmers and affected families.
In this context, Dhirendra Singh stated, “Development is meaningful only when it respects and safeguards the interests of farmers. The farmers of the Jewar area have provided their land for the country’s largest infrastructure projects, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure their rightful participation.”
He expressed confidence that the authority would recognize the sensitivity of this issue and make a timely positive decision, thereby establishing a balance between regional development and the interests of farmers.
