Urgent Repairs Needed for Deteriorating Diphu-Hamren Road in West Karbi Anglong
Critical Condition of Diphu-Hamren Road
Diphu, Aug 17: The main road connecting Diphu and Hamren, situated just three kilometers from the Assistant Executive Engineer's office in Kherani sub-division, is in a state of disrepair, posing risks for both vehicles and pedestrians.
This roadway serves as a vital link for local residents, connecting the Donkamokam home of the Chief Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Tuliram Ronghang, to Hamren and the district headquarters. The poor condition of the road has turned daily travel into a hazardous task for locals, including students, farmers, small business owners, and government employees.
The road marks the boundary between the Amreng and Kapili Members of Autonomous Council (MAC) constituencies. Residents claim that despite its importance, the road has not received adequate maintenance or repairs, leading to its current alarming state.
Locals have noted that the road has been in disrepair for several months, characterized by uneven surfaces, large potholes, and insufficient upkeep. This situation worsens during bad weather, making travel particularly dangerous. Recently, an oil tanker overturned at Kherani Chariali due to the road conditions.
Community members have expressed that the damaged road significantly impacts students and office workers, often causing them to arrive late. The safety of drivers is also at risk.
Despite the road's closeness to the PWD office and its importance in connecting various parts of the district, local authorities and elected officials have faced criticism for their lack of action. A local merchant who relies on this road stated, “This road is a daily nightmare. The struggles faced by students, farmers, and workers are clear, yet there appears to be little concern from the officials. It feels like our suffering is being overlooked.”
Residents are urging for immediate repairs to ensure safe travel along this essential route.
