Urgent Action Required: NHRC Orders Police to Locate Missing Child in Bhadrak

Kendrapara: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has instructed the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Bhadrak to prioritize the investigation into the case of a missing minor. The commission has requested a status update within four weeks, warning that failure to comply may lead to the invocation of coercive measures under Section 13 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.

This directive came in response to a petition from Sagar Kumar Jena, a human rights advocate. In his petition, he referenced reports from various newspapers dated July 29, 2024, claiming that a one-and-a-half-year-old boy was abducted by two individuals in the Bhandaripokhari region of Bhadrak district. The child's mother has alleged that her son was taken by a close relative named Alok, who had been a frequent visitor to their home. She has appealed to the commission for assistance in this troubling matter. The NHRC has mandated that the SP provide a comprehensive report by May 11, 2025, for further evaluation.
