Anticipated Visit of Amit Shah to Manipur

Imphal, Oct 6: The visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Manipur is anticipated to occur this month, although a specific date has yet to be confirmed, according to Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh.


“While the date remains unconfirmed, it is likely to be in October,” Khemchand stated.


This announcement follows recent speculation regarding Shah's potential visit, particularly the possibility of him arriving in the state during the first week of October.


Shah's visit is expected to be significant, given the ongoing security challenges in Manipur and the state government's initiatives aimed at fostering peace, rehabilitation, and development.


During this time, the state Cabinet also passed a resolution expressing appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his 25 years of leadership.


The resolution underscored various infrastructure and welfare projects initiated in Manipur under Modi's administration.


Notable achievements mentioned include the introduction of railway connectivity to the state in 2022 and the ongoing Jiribam-Imphal railway project, which features the Noney Bridge, recognized as the tallest railway pier bridge globally.


Additionally, the Cabinet highlighted the approval of approximately 1,100 km of National Highways, with an estimated investment of Rs 16,000 crore, and the fencing of 240 km along the Indo-Myanmar border, costing around Rs 3,223 crore.


Other significant developments included the peace agreement with the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) in November 2023 and the extension of the Inner Line Permit system to Manipur in December 2019.


On the welfare front, the resolution noted a rise in rural tap-water coverage from 6% to 80%, with over 14 lakh individuals benefiting from the Ayushman Bharat scheme.


It also mentioned the establishment of the National Sports University in Imphal, Churachandpur Medical College, and externally funded projects exceeding Rs 11,000 crore.


At the national level, the resolution acknowledged achievements such as economic growth, advancements in digital payments, infrastructure development, healthcare expansion, COVID-19 vaccination efforts, the G20 Presidency, and the success of Chandrayaan-3.


The Cabinet expressed optimism that India would reach the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047 and reiterated the state government's dedication to collaborating with the Centre for Manipur's peace, progress, and prosperity.


This Cabinet resolution will be communicated to the Prime Minister’s Office. Modi first took office as Gujarat Chief Minister on October 7, 2001, and became Prime Minister in May 2014.
