Union Cabinet Approves Major Investments for New Airport Terminal and Rail Projects
New Integrated Airport Terminal Approved in Srinagar
On Tuesday, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the Union Cabinet has sanctioned a new integrated airport terminal in Srinagar, with an investment of ₹1,667 crores. The civil enclave project will span 73.18 acres, featuring a terminal building covering 71,500 square meters. This announcement was made during a briefing following a Cabinet meeting in the national capital. The estimated expenditure for the airport terminal project is ₹1,677 crores.
Project Details and Employment Opportunities
The terminal is designed to accommodate 2,900 passengers during peak hours, with an annual capacity of 10 million travelers. The government anticipates that this project will create job opportunities and stimulate investment. The decision was made during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Approval of Multi-Tracking Rail Projects
Additionally, the Union Cabinet has approved three multi-tracking rail projects across eight districts in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand, with a total cost of ₹9,072 crores. The Cabinet also greenlit a total infrastructure investment of ₹12,236 crores in the sectors of railways, urban transport, and aviation. These rail projects are expected to enhance connectivity for approximately 5,407 villages and expand the railway network by about 307 km, with a target completion date set for 2030-31.
