Understanding Kunjal Kriya: A Powerful Detox Technique

To maintain a healthy body, various practices are employed. Today, we will discuss one such practice that is particularly beneficial for the stomach: Kunjal Kriya.

Benefits of Kunjal Kriya

Kunjal Kriya, also known as Jal Neti, is an effective remedy for numerous ailments. This technique, part of the Shatkarmas, is responsible for enhancing the strength and immunity of the body, much like how elephants remain resilient despite injuries.

Regular practice of Kunjal Kriya strengthens digestion and delays the onset of aging, keeping the body agile and energetic. Ancient sages have outlined six cleansing techniques, known as Shatkarmas, for purifying both the external and internal body, which include Dhautī, Vasti, Neti, Kunjal, Nauli, and Trataka.

How to Perform Kunjal Kriya

While Kunjal Kriya is not overly complex, mastering the technique can be challenging for some. Those who become proficient in it often find themselves free from diseases and sorrows. This powerful practice involves cleansing the stomach with water, effectively purging the digestive tract.

It is recommended to perform this kriya under the supervision of a yoga instructor. To begin, one should practice this in the morning after using the restroom.

Start by warming some pure water in a container. Sit in a Kagasana posture and drink a sufficient amount of water. Once your stomach is full, stand and bend forward at a 90-degree angle from your navel. Place your hand on your stomach and use two or three fingers of your right hand to reach the back of your tongue. Rotate your fingers quickly at the back of your tongue to induce vomiting. Allow the water to flow out as it rises. Repeat this process until all the ingested water is expelled. Finally, drink a glass of warm water and repeat the process.

Health Benefits of Kunjal Kriya

Regular practice of Kunjal Kriya significantly benefits the liver, heart, and intestines. It promotes a sense of well-being and keeps the mind cheerful and vibrant.

This kriya helps eliminate ailments caused by Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas. Digestive issues like indigestion, gas, and constipation are alleviated, leading to improved digestive strength.

Additionally, it combats colds, coughs, asthma, and other respiratory issues. Oral health, including problems with the mouth, tongue, and teeth, is also enhanced. It proves beneficial for conditions like facial disorders, blood disorders, chest ailments, and more.

Precautions to Consider

When practicing Kunjal Kriya, ensure that the water is neither too hot nor too cold, and do not add salt. Maintain a proper physical posture while performing the kriya, bending forward to facilitate the easy expulsion of water.
