Uncertainty Surrounds Women's ODI World Cup 2025 Matches in Bengaluru
Upcoming Women's ODI World Cup in India
The ICC Women's ODI World Cup 2025 is set to take place in India next month, running from September 30 to November 2. The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru has been designated to host four matches of the tournament. If Pakistan does not reach the finals, the concluding match is also scheduled for this venue on November 2. However, recent reports suggest that matches for the Women's World Cup may not occur at this stadium.
According to a report from a sports news outlet, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has yet to receive approval from the state government to host the ODI World Cup. This has led to uncertainty regarding the matches in Bengaluru for the Women's ODI World Cup 2025.
The report indicates that this uncertainty stems from a tragic incident in June, where 11 fans lost their lives during celebrations for the Royal Challengers Bangalore's IPL trophy win. The matter is currently under judicial review, and the state government has not granted permission for the matches. Consequently, the KSCA has relocated the Maharaja Cup T20 tournament from the city to Mysuru while awaiting the necessary approvals for the Women's World Cup.
A KSCA official informed the sports news outlet that they have reached out to the state government and are awaiting a response. They clarified that the government has not outright denied permission. If that were the case, they would not have allowed the Maharaja Cup to take place in Mysuru. Therefore, they are patiently waiting and progressing step by step.
