Ukrainian Drone Assault Triggers Blaze at Russian Oil Facility: What You Need to Know
Drone Attack Causes Fire at Russian Oil Terminal
Kyiv: A recent drone strike by Ukraine has ignited a fire at a Russian oil terminal, according to local officials in Krasnodar. This incident marks yet another blow to Russia's crucial oil sector.
Officials from Novorossiysk reported that debris from the drone caused a fire at an unspecified oil terminal, resulting in injuries to two individuals.
The Russian news outlet Astra indicated that the Sheskharis oil terminal, which serves as a key point for the state-controlled Transneft's oil pipelines, was targeted. While images shared by Astra showed smoke billowing from the site, their authenticity remains unverified. Ukraine has yet to respond to this incident.
In response to Russia's ongoing invasion, Ukraine has enhanced its capabilities for mid- and long-range strikes, utilizing domestically developed drone and missile technology. Attacks on Russian oil facilities, which are vital for funding the invasion, have become increasingly frequent.
In a related development, the death toll from a Ukrainian drone strike on a college dormitory in Starobilsk, located in the Luhansk region occupied by Russia, has risen to 11, as reported by officials installed by Moscow.
Russian President Vladimir Putin condemned the dormitory attack as a 'crime' and has instructed the military to propose retaliatory measures, asserting that there were no military targets near the college.
During an emergency UN Security Council meeting convened at Russia's request, Ukrainian Ambassador Andrii Melnyk refuted claims of war crimes made by his Russian counterpart, labeling them as 'pure propaganda' and emphasizing that the operations on May 22 were aimed solely at the Russian military apparatus.
