This occurred shortly after a phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, where they discussed the recent Ukrainian strikes on Russian targets. Trump noted that the conversation lasted about an hour and 15 minutes, during which they addressed the attacks on Russian airfields. Putin's remarks indicated a potential for retaliation, which manifested in the recent airstrikes.

Ukrainian Defense Forces Respond

Reports indicate that Ukrainian defense systems successfully intercepted approximately 30 missiles and 200 drones during the assault. Zelenskyy condemned Russia's actions, emphasizing, "The Russians continually attempt to create divisions within the global community to mitigate pressure on their war efforts. We must recognize our objectives clearly. Diplomacy must prevail, security assurances must be established, and peace must be achieved.
