Demolition of Illegal Construction in Ujjain
The Ujjain Development Authority has taken action to demolish an illegal structure located close to the Mahakal Temple. This operation was supported by a substantial presence of police and municipal staff. Gagan Badal, the local police station chief, stated that the demolition is occurring in the Begambagh area, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Malakal police station. Approximately 50 police officers have been deployed to ensure the operation proceeds smoothly.
The CEO of the Ujjain Development Authority explained that the land in question is part of a residential scheme developed by the authority. Initially, all plots along the adjacent road were designated for residential use; however, many individuals began utilizing them for commercial purposes, violating regulations. About a year ago, the authority revoked the leases, rendering the structures illegal. Following this, legal orders were issued, leading to the demolition of house number 19, which had been used for commercial activities across two sections.
According to Santosh Tagore, the deputy commissioner of the municipal corporation, they were instructed by the UDA to provide machinery and support for the demolition, which includes two JCBs, two excavators, and a dumper. Currently, around 60 to 70 municipal employees are assisting with the operation. Meanwhile, the Ramghat temple, located along the banks of the Shipra River in Ujjain district, has been inundated due to rising water levels caused by continuous rainfall.
This increase in the river's water level coincided with the Hindu festival of Rishi Panchami, attracting a large number of devotees for sacred bathing. The influx of pilgrims raised concerns for local authorities, prompting the deployment of adequate security personnel to ensure safety at the ghats. Devendra Singh from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) informed that the water level of the Shipra River has risen significantly due to heavy rains. The water level on the small bridge over the river is currently about 2-3 feet high. Due to the large crowd of devotees on Rishi Panchami, we are advising them to avoid deep waters and to bathe only at the edges where it is safer.
