Uddhav Thackeray Launches 'Ram Raksha Movement' Amid Allegations of Fund Misuse
Thackeray's Call to Action
Uddhav Thackeray, the leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), has announced the initiation of a 'Ram Raksha Movement' across Maharashtra starting July 5, in response to alleged financial irregularities related to the Ram Temple donations. He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of exploiting this issue for political gain. During a press conference, Thackeray revealed that the movement will kick off with a recitation of Hanuman Chalisa at a temple in Dadar, Mumbai, at 4 PM on Sunday. He invited all Hindus who adhere to Hindutva and the ideology of Balasaheb Thackeray to participate in protests that will also take place at various Ram and Hanuman temples throughout the state.
Concerns Over Fund Misappropriation
Thackeray raised concerns about reports suggesting that the BJP might be conducting a 'Ram Temple operation' to influence MPs and MLAs. He claimed there is evidence of theft, with some alleging that funds misappropriated from the Ram Temple are being used to destabilize political parties. He emphasized the need to punish those misusing temple funds, recalling a statement by Atal Bihari Vajpayee that Hindus would no longer be victims. Thackeray asserted that Hindus will not forgive those who plunder temples.
A Call for Unity in the Ram Temple Movement
Discussing the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Thackeray expressed his desire to visit the site with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating that Shiv Sena would participate in any future Rath Yatra organized by the BJP. He reminisced about the role of Shiv Sainiks and various Hindu organizations in the Ram Temple movement, lamenting that the temple is now in the spotlight for negative reasons. He noted that prior to this movement, the BJP had only two MPs, and it is unfortunate that the Ram Temple is now associated with different controversies.
Commitment to Hindutva
Reaffirming his party's commitment to Hindutva, Thackeray stated that before becoming Chief Minister, he had proclaimed, 'First the temple, then the government.' He emphasized that for them, the temple takes precedence over the government, insisting that those who are corrupt must face justice.
