Speculations of a Reunion

Uddhav Thackeray, the leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), has sparked speculation about a potential reunion with his cousin Raj Thackeray as local body elections approach. This comes after party leader and MLA Aditya Thackeray fueled the rumors further. Uddhav's comments followed his earlier remarks addressing the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) led by Raj, where he stated, 'What is in the heart of Maharashtra will happen.'

Aditya Thackeray's Statements

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, Aditya emphasized, 'We have consistently stated this. We are open to collaborating with anyone or any party willing to work for the interests of Maharashtra and the Marathi-speaking populace.' He criticized the ruling party, accusing it of 'devouring Mumbai and Maharashtra' and committing injustices against the state.

Will the Thackeray Cousins Unite?

Echoing Uddhav's previous statements, Raj Thackeray had mentioned that uniting for the Marathi community is 'not difficult.' However, Uddhav clarified that for reconciliation, 'petty issues' must be set aside, and those working against Maharashtra's interests should be rejected. Aditya added, 'It is our responsibility to bring about change. Any party working to protect Maharashtra's interests should unite and fight together.'

Historical Context

The cousins, once close, parted ways nearly two decades ago due to ideological and political differences. Nevertheless, their recent comments have reignited discussions about a possible political realignment in Maharashtra.

Review Meeting by Uddhav

Meanwhile, on Sunday, Uddhav convened a meeting with party leaders to assess ground realities. He urged them to engage with voters and citizens through programs and events. He stated, 'Our party workers and leaders should be visible on the ground, connecting with people and voicing their issues.'

Comments on Coalition Speculations

Regarding the growing speculation about a potential alliance between Uddhav and Raj Thackeray, MNS leader Amit Thackeray remarked on Friday that such matters should not be resolved through public statements. He stressed that only direct communication between the two leaders could lead to meaningful outcomes.

Amit Thackeray's Perspective

Amit stated, 'Only the two brothers should talk. Our comments on this matter will not change anything.' He expressed no objections to their coming together but noted that similar discussions had occurred in 2014 and 2017. He referenced previous unsuccessful attempts at a Shiv Sena-MNS alliance, mentioning that party workers from both sides are pressuring their leaders to reunite.
